NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION REPORTS NO DEFICIT IN SALARY ACCOUNTS.

The State of New Jersey, Department of Education, Office of Compliance Investigation has issued a report for the Winslow Township School District 2005-2006 budgeting problems.

The Department of Education report includes:

"The Winslow Township School District is in violation of N.J.S.A. 18A:17-9 and N.J.S.A. 18A:17-36 by failing to submit financial reports prior to January 2006 to the Board of Education. This resulted in an erroneous estimate of a budgetary deficit for the 2005-2006 school year."

"...This deficit estimate ultimately led to a reduction in force..."

"The board acted on the projected deficit without the benefit of reviewing any financial reports. In so doing, the board was unable to discern that the logic for the projection of the deficit was faulty."
