TECHNICALLY HOLCOMB IS CORRECT

This short audio clip is from the Winslow Township Mayor and Committee meeting of September 27, 2005. The Committee was wrapping up the meeting with some routine business. This particular item was responding to a builder’s request to refund bond money that the Township typically holds until punch list items are completed. In this case the builder claims to have completed the punch list that just happens to involve Committeeman Cooper’s neighborhood.

Committeeman Cooper:

“My driveway was on the punch list…and it wasn’t done. I really don’t give a damn….”

Barbara Holcomb:

“Al, don’t start cursing…yea, but I don’t do it on record, on this dais.”

Committeeman Cooper:

“You’re going to get hit by lightning.”

Technically, Holcomb is correct, until proven otherwise, that she has not cursed on the record or from the dais.

The picture below of Holcomb was taken during an open public meeting in the Winslow Township Courtroom. The meeting was the 2005 Township budget workshop where the Committee members discussed how our $24,710,000. will be spent.

While this gesture was displayed during a public meeting, it was NOT from the dais. Do to the nature of the meeting, the dais was not used and the Committee members assembled around a conference table.

Furthermore, the official tape recorder was recording the audio of the meeting. Even though such a recording is not required for any Committee meeting. A resident in attendance photographed Holcomb’s obscene gesture.

Subject: Schools

Winslow Parents and residences amaze me they complain about the schools but they do nothing about it. They allow a few people from Sicklerville to run the schools. (The pay to play candidates, of course they will win an election they have plenty of campaign money) The residences will complain at the soccer and baseball fields. They claim they care about their kid’s education but no one goes to a board meeting to see what is going on. Many don’t even know that they do not have a full time superintend nor a full time business administrator. That the assistant business administrator just quit and the assistant superintend just put in for his retirement. So who do they think is calling the shots? The pay to play candidates that’s who. They don’t care that the schools are over crowded and that we missed the opportunity to have the state pay for 65% of the building project that should of already began. But yet parents will complain about taxes going up. Well I guess they will go up when the State mandates a building project when they see 25 Kindergarten students are in a class. But lets just stay home and keep our heads in the sand, that way we will have something to complain about.

As for Town hall

Very few will go out to vote in November the ones that do will vote for the folks with the giant signs that blind our view all over this 58 square mile township. (Of course they will mail out tons of mail and put up more signs as they sell their votes at town hall. Those signs are not cheep to print so they will take money and make promises at the tax payer’s expense. The funny thing is that we will then pay these people to be on the town council. So we get to pay over and over and over again. But let’s all sit in our houses or stand at the games and complain, no sense in spending any time to find out about the candidates just vote for the big signs and for the folks that send tons of mail that will be coming out soon. (I wonder if they took all that money that they spend on signs and mailings and put it towards something in the township, could we have a recreation center, or maybe just pay for some police cars?) So what will you do, take the easy way out, just sit home and complain.

Subject: TAXES

If this trend continues (building homes and raising taxes) most residents will not be able to afford to live in Winslow Township, or want to. Every other month a new housing development begins and taxes again go up. Traffic in this area is becoming outrageous and another reason to leave. Have you noticed more and more for sale signs going up? I wonder why! Something has to be done. Building has to stop and taxes have to stabalize.

Thank you for writing to UNofficially Winslow.
Yes new home construction is on the rise here in Winslow Township. UNofficially Winslow has learned that you can't always a prevent new hosing development if the project meets current zoning and other standards.

However, the Democrat controlling party here in Winslow Township railroaded through the Township Committee to sell Township owned property. In many cases to known housing developers. Committeeman Barry Wright, who is currently running for re-election in Ward 2 (Cedar Brook area), supported the concept of selling Township property by seconding the motion and voting in favor of selling the land. Now, one year later, after Barry Wright sold off Township land to housing developers, he wants to start a special tax in Winslow to preserve open space!

Nick LoSasso, who is challenging Barry Wright for his Committee seat, was very much apposed to the Township selling land to private developers. Mr. LoSasso made it be known by speaking on the subject during public participation at Township Committee meetings.

In Ward 4 (Sicklerville area) Chuck Flamini, who is also seeking re-election, didn't even bother to show up on two occasions to support the residents who are trying to prevent 400 plus new homes from being built. This project by, AST Developers, can be stopped because it doesn't meet local zoning requirements and requires special zoning variances or permission to do what the law says they can't do.

Below are a few copies of previous postings to UNofficially Winslow which have more details on the very good points that you have raised.

Again, thank you for your email.

Sincerely,

UNofficially Winslow.

Township Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:30 P.M. Except for July, August, November, and December. During these months there is typically only one meeting and it is held the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The meetings are held in the Municipal Building Courtroom at 125 S. Route 73.

The next Township Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday September 28, 2004 at 7:30 P.M.

Winslow Mayor Sue Ann Metzner called AST "greedy" for trying to build nearly three times the 169 units permitted under current zoning. The township has designated the land "high density residential," permitting three housing units per acre. Courier-Post June 8, 2005

CONDOMINIUMS, STORES, AND YET ANOTHER BILLBOARD WERE BEING DISCUSSED FOR SICKLERVILLE. RESIDENTS DISTRIBUTED 2500 FLIERS IN SEVEN SUBDIVISIONS TO ENCOURAGE OTHER RESIDENTS TO ATTEND A ZONING BOARD MEETING ON WEDNESDAY JUNE 8, 2005.

THE FIRE MARSHAL WAS PRESENT TO COUNT HEADS TO KEEP THE RESIDENTS SAFE. IN THE EVENT THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING AND OR MEETING ROOM WOULD NOT BE LARGE ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE CROWDS, ALTERNATE MEETING LOCATIONS WERE BEING CONSIDERED.

MAYOR METZNER, ALONG WITH TWO OTHER COMMITTEEMEN, JOE PINO AND AL COOPER, WERE THERE TO SUPPORT THE RESIDENTS OF WARD 4. WHY WASN'T CHUCK FLAMINI OR DAN DIFABIO, THE WARD 4 COMMITTEEMEN, THERE?

DUE TO THE POTENTIAL OUTCRY OF THE PUBLIC IN ATTENDANCE, THE APPLICANT REQUESTED THAT THE ZONING VARIANCE HEARING BE CONTINUED TO A UNSPECIFIED ZONING BOARD MEETING IN THE FUTURE.

PERHAPS YOU WOULD CONSIDER SENDING AN EMAIL TO FLAMINI AND DIFABIO WHO CLAIM TO REPRESENT WARD 4. HERE ARE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS YOU MAY CONSIDER ASKING THEM.

EMAIL FOR FLAMINI: CharlesFlamini@winslowtownship.com

EMAIL FOR DIFABIO: DanielDiFabio@winslowtownship.com

1) WHY SHOULD I VOTE FOR YOU THIS NOVEMBER, MR. CHUCK FLAMINI, IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO REPRESENT ME AND WARD 4 ISSUES? IT SEEMS YOU JUST WANT TO COLLECT A PAY CHECK FOR MINIMAL EFFORT.

2) IF THE PROJECT GETS APPROVED AS PRESENTED, WILL ANYONE PROFIT WHO FINANCIALLY SUPPORTED YOUR POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS?

Huge housing development plan opposed
Wednesday, June 8, 2005 Zoning board hearing tonight set in Winslow
By ERIK SCHWARTZ Courier-Post Staff

WINSLOW

Opponents of a large 55-and-over housing development proposed for the booming Sicklerville section of the township are expected to fill a zoning board meeting tonight.
Opponents object to a developer's plan to build nearly triple the number of residential units allowed by law. They hope to rally support from the people who live in the hundreds of new homes and shop in the multiplying chain stores surrounding traffic-choked Berlin-Cross Keys Road.

AST Development Corp. needs several zoning variances to construct 504 units, a clubhouse, a shopping center and a billboard on about 64 acres. The parcel sits around the corner from Exit 41 of the Atlantic City Expressway.

AST, based in Lavallette, Ocean County, has an agreement with the farmland's owner, John Wayne Jennings, to pursue developing the property. Company representatives did not return calls for comment.

Leading opponents of the project did not reveal their names on a flier distributed widely in Sicklerville. The flier implored some 2,500 homeowners in seven subdivisions to "Please help save our community" and attend tonight's public hearing.

An informal survey of residents this week found resistance to the addition of as many as 1,000 new residents, but also resignation that more homes, traffic and commerce are inevitable.

"That's too much," said Joe Patterson, 44, a chef who moved to a house in Stone Hollow last year. "Don't get me wrong. I got nothing against the old people, but they're trying to build a little city over there."

Patterson's neighbor, Tom McGrail, 47, has lived in Stone Hollow for 12 years.
"They built all this stuff and it's never affected me," said McGrail, a mechanic. "I don't see that community . . . hurting me. If it means more tax revenue and if it helps keep my taxes down, I'm for it. As far as congestion, it's congested now. And having that is not going to be that much more."

Winslow Mayor Sue Ann Metzner called AST "greedy" for trying to build nearly three times the 169 units permitted under current zoning. The township has designated the land "high density residential," permitting three housing units per acre.

"I just think this is the last thing we need for our community," she said.
That sentiment is likely to be repeated tonight before the zoning board.
"It's getting too overpopulated in this area. The roads just can't handle it," said Jim Tice, 54, a truck driver who has lived in the area for more than 15 years.
"They throw up housing everywhere," he said. "It was very quiet, a nice little town. But now, all that changed. All the farms (are) just about gone."

IF YOU GO
The Winslow Township Zoning Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing tonight at 7:30 at the municipal building, 125 South Route 73.

Part 2 Mayor Metzner

This audio track is the balance of Mayor Sue Ann Metzner addressing the Winslow Zoning Board (2 minutes, 7 seconds.)

WAS IT REALLY JUST 10 SECONDS ? YOU DECIDE !

During the August 16, 2005 Mayor and Township Committee meeting, Committeeman Wright made a few remarks regarding the proposed project of AST Developers in Sicklerville. Several other articles regarding this disputed project are posted here on UNofficially Winslow.

Below is a brief audio clip where Committeeman Wright stated he did not have a conversation with the attorney, Mr. John Wade, who represents AST Development. With the exception of a brief "10 second" FYI type of conversation Wright explains about in this audio clip.

this is an audio post - click to play

On Tuesday July 26, 2005 AST developers had an informal meeting with the public at the Villa Deli Catering hall in Sicklerville to discuss their revised plans with the public. During this meeting the attorney for AST Development, Mr. John Wade, announced he had spoken with Winslow Township elected officials. Mayor Metzner, being the only representation for the residents at the meeting, asked Mr. Wade who he had spoken with. In the audio clip below you will hear Mr. Wade being rude to our Mayor. Mr. Wade also mentions he has talked with Committeeman Wright. Is this the same "10 second" conversation Mr. Wright mentioned above? You decide!

(ADUIO QUALITY ADJUSTED 8-22-05)

Do you believe Wright that the conversation was only 10 seconds in passing? If so, then do you think Mr. Wade was being something less than 100 percent straight-forward with the public at the Villa Deli meeting, when he stated he had been in contact with elected officials?

COMMITTEEMAN WRIGHT WANTS A NEW TAX IN WINSLOW TOWNSHIP

Committeeman Barry Wright voted along party lines to sell Township owned land and open space. Now, one year later, Wright has proposed a new special tax for Winslow Township to help preserve open space. One might also note Camden County already imposes an open space tax on Winslow residents. Winslow Township has benefited in the past from the Camden County Open Space program and tax. Why must Winslow residents pay twice?

Click here to review a copy of the Township committee minutes when the vote was taken authorizing the public land sale. With the motion being made by Holcomb and seconded by
Wright. The minutes also reflect a statement by Mayor Metzner, who did not agree with the sale of Township land, indicating we need open space. Now Wright wants a tax to preserve land!

Click on the audio link below to hear Wright ask for his new tax.
If you live in Ward 2, please remember Wright is running for re-election this November. Do we the residents of Winslow Township need a Committeeman like Wright?

Subject: GOOD GOVERNMENT IS NOT MOB RULE

As a lifelong resident and a lifelong Democrat I applaud your website. One look at the televised meetings on TV and its apparent something is seriously wrong . To take away health benefits and the aid to Sue Ann (Mayor) is a disgrace. It looks like the Township's well being is the last thing some people up there are interested in, power and their own agenda are the order of business. November is coming soon. My deepest gratitude to Sue Ann for handling those vipers with dignity and a clear head, and yes I am a registered Democrat but, what I have seen some people need to take a course in ethics principals in good government not mob rule.

Wawa, NBC 10 and the American Red Cross Partner with Neighbors to Help Victims of Hurricane Katrina Starting Friday, Wawa to Accept Donations at All Stores; Company Will Match First $50,000 Raised

As reported today on C-Span television Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, Sr. have started a recovery fund to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. However, it may be easier to donate using the Wawa coupons. In addition Wawa will match your donation. There are three coupons available in $1. $2. and $5. denominations. It's not much to us to donate one dollar. If every resident in Winslow Township donated one dollar, Winslow residents could stand proud knowing they raised in excess of $34,611. Plus Wawa's match for a grand total of $69,222. Americans within a days drive of Winslow Township are without their homes, belongings, and most are without employment when they need it the most. Large American corporations are helping. Foreign countries around the world are sending aid. Countries that the United States is normally the aid provider to, not the recipient of aid are helping. Please consider helping our fellow Americans by going to Wawa and making a one dollar (or more if you can) donation.

Wawa, PA - September 1, 2005 - Wawa, Inc. today announced that it will conduct a campaign to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina, which has devastated communities in the southern United States.

From September 2 through September 12, Wawa will be collecting donations at each of its more than 540 stores in five states. Customers interested in donating will find easy-to-use $1 coupons at the point of sale. Wawa will match the first $50,000 raised and submit all donations to the American Red Cross, for disaster relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

To print out your own coupon immediately, click the above link. "Wawa customers and associates have a history of reaching out to others in times of need," said Howard Stoeckel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wawa, Inc. "We are proud to give them an avenue to direct their donations where they are most needed. Together with our customers, Wawa extends its thoughts to the victims during this trying time."

The American Red Cross is currently providing lifesaving assistance in the form of immediate disaster mass care to victims and emergency workers in the states devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

"We are grateful that once again that Wawa has taken the lead in our community in raising money to relieve the incredible devastation inflicted by Hurricane Katrina," said Tom Foley, Chief Executive Officer of American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA). "This money will relieve suffering by providing food, water shelter, clothing and medical supplies to millions of our fellow citizens driven from their homes by this terrible storm."

NBC 10 stepped up immediately as the exclusive broadcast partner for the campaign.

"On behalf of every employee at NBC 10, we're extremely pleased to assist Wawa and The American Red Cross with this important and necessary project," said NBC 10 President and General Manager Dennis Bianchi. "From past experience, we know that our viewers always respond to those in need, and we're encouraging everyone in the Delaware Valley and Lehigh Valley to contribute whatever amount they can to help the victims of this terrible disaster."
